Match Preview: LA Galaxy II Play Host to Wrexham AFC in an International Friendly at Dignity Health Sports Park

LOS ANGELES – Following a 1-1 draw in regulation and a 4-3 penalty-kick shootout win over the Tacoma Defiance on July 16, LA Galaxy II return to action to play host to Wrexham AFC in an international friendly at Dignity Health Sports Park tomorrow, Saturday, July 22 (7:30 p.m. PT; MLSNEXTPro.comLA Galaxy Radio). 

LA Galaxy II enter Saturday’s match against Wrexham riding a four-match unbeaten run in league play (2-0-2) dating back to June 29. In 18 games played (18 starts) during the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season, Aaron Bibout ranks tied for second in the league with 10 goals scored and has added five assists. Founded in 1864, Wrexham AFC is the oldest soccer club in Wales and the third oldest professional soccer club in the world. Notably, Hollywood actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are co-owners of Wrexham and the club is featured on the FX docuseries Welcome to Wrexham, which chronicles the purchase and stewardship of Wrexham AFC by McElhenney and Reynolds. Wrexham, who play their home matches at the Racecourse Ground, clinched promotion to League Two, the fourth-tier of the English Football League, and won the National League title after defeating Boreham Wood 3-1 on April 22. The promotion to EFL League Two marks the first time Wrexham have reached the fourth-tier of the EFL since the 2007-08 campaign. Fans in attendance for Saturday’s match will be able to check out the Wrexham Hotel activation on the main concourse, where they can try Ryan Reynold’s Aviation American Gin. 

Wrexham are in the midst of a four-match U.S. tour, where they fell 5-0 to Chelsea at Kenan Memorial Stadium on July 19. The Welsh-based club will go up against Galaxy II on July 22, before closing out their U.S. tour against Manchester United at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, Calif., on Tuesday, July 25 (7:30 p.m. PT) and against MLS NEXT Pro side Bethlehem Steel at Subaru Park in Chester, Penn., on Saturday, July 29 (4:30 p.m. PT; MLSNEXTPro.com).
