Steven Gerrard excited to play alongside new LA Galaxy signing Giovani dos Santos | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. -- Robbie Keane's role in the LA Galaxy's signing of Giovani dos Santos has been well-documented but the Galaxy may have also gotten an assist from Steven Gerrard to get the deal done.

The Galaxy announced the signing of the established Mexican international on Wednesday after a long courtship. After the club's announcement, Gerrard admitted to being a longtime admirer of dos Santos since his facing the youngster during his time with Tottenham Hotspur and Mexico.

"I'm very excited. I chatted with him a few weeks week, I told him what I thought [about the move] and I said that I was excited to play with him. Now that the signing is done and complete, we're looking forward to giving him a huge welcome. He's certainly someone who will help the squad," Gerrard said. "He's very clever, he's very intelligent and he comes alive in the final third. We're hoping that he could create some chances and score goals for us."

When dos Santos -- and the rest of the Galaxy's international contingent -- arrive back at StubHub Center, Gerrard is confident that the Galaxy will have a lineup that will cause fear among in other Major League Soccer locker rooms.

"Once we get everyone available and everyone fit, we believe that we're the No. 1 team. I get the feeling in the games that everyone wants to beat the LA Galaxy," Gerrard said. "Everyone wants to compete against us because we believe and we have the confidence that when everyone is healthy that we're the No. 1 team."
