LA Galaxy II announced today that the club has signed defender Josh Turnley. Turnley, who was selected by the LA Galaxy in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, joins after a standout career at Georgetown University. Los Dos open the 2016 USL season against Arizona United SC on Saturday, March 26, at StubHub Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. PT. Turnley, a starter in three of his four years at Georgetown, helped the team earn nine shutouts in 18 games during his senior season en route to a 16-2-3 overall record. That year, the Beaver, Pa. native was named a Second Team All-Big East Conference selection. During his time as a Hoya, Turnley also earned Big East Conference All-Academic Team (2013, 2014) and Georgetown’s Most Improved Player (2013) honors. In his career at Georgetown, Turnley started 61 total matches and added six assists.
The defender attended Beaver Area High School in Beaver, Pennsylvania, where he set school records for career goals (101) and goals in a single-season (43). In four years at high school, he was named an All-American, two-time All-State honoree and two-time All-Region selection. Additionally, Turnley earned honors as the Pennsylvania State Coaches Association Player of the Year.
Los Dos will now begin the 2016 season after winning the USL Western Conference title last year, reaching their first-ever USL final. LA Galaxy II finished 6-1-2 in their preseason campaign in the buildup to this year’s opening match, most recently earning a comprehensive 4-2 victory over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday.
