RGVFC joined USL in 2016 as one of six expansion franchises, and Wednesday night will be the second meeting between the two sides. In their first meeting, Los Dos defeated the Toros 2-0 on the road at UTRGV Soccer & Track Complex on April 30 behind goals from Jack McBean and Ariel Lassiter.

As for recent form, the Toros have lost just once in their last 11 matches while Los Dos have just one win in their last eight matches. RGVFC sits second in the Western Conference, just two points off leader Sacramento Republic FC. LA drew 1-1 with Sacramento on Saturday.

Lassiter scored in Los Dos’ outing against Sacramento, and as Los Dos’ most versatile scorer, is the biggest threat to RGVFC. After returning from a back injury that had kept him sidelined most of the summer, Lassiter has scored four of the team’s last six goals.

Wednesday will be a battle between the two highest scoring teams in the Western Conference. Los Dos has led the conference in goals for much of the season; they’ve scored 47 while RGVFC has netted 43. Before being shutout against Portland Timbers FC in their last outing, the Toros had scored 17 goals in five games. Lassiter leads scorers on both teams with his seven goals on the season.

LAST MATCH

LA Galaxy 1 | Sacramento Republic FC 1: LA Galaxy II drew 1-1 with Sacramento Republic FC (13-6-9, 48 points) on Saturday night at StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium. Ariel Lassiter scored his seventh goal of the season as LA Galaxy II split points with the USL Western Conference leader. Los Dos led 1-0 at the close of the first half, but were unable to close out the game for the three home points.

RGVFC 0 | Portland Timbers 1: The Portland Timbers 2, already out of the postseason picture, battled for a 1-0 victory against Rio Grande Valley FC on Saturday at Toro Stadium. A win would have put RGV into the top spot, but Portland’s Brent Richards tallied a 60th-minute goal and T2 ended the Toros’ 10-game unbeaten streak (6-0-4).
