CARSON, Calif. – Giovani dos Santos’ sublime chip against Columbus Crew SC earned the Mexican striker the LA Galaxy Goal of the Month award presented by 76 Gas for the month of September.
Dos Santos’ game-winning goal in the Galaxy’s 2-1 win over Columbus Crew SC on Sept. 3 won the poll, while Baggio Husidic’s strike which also came against Crew SC finished in second.
The 27-year-old’s goal came in the 82nd minute when Dos Santos coolly chipped Columbus goalkeeper Steve Clark after receiving a well-placed pass from defender Robbie Rogers. The goal was the first Galaxy goal to earn MLSsoccer.com’s Goal of the Week since the 2012 season.
The 27-year-old joins Galaxy striker Jack McBean as the only other two-time winner of the competition. Ari Lassiter, Galaxy Academy star Efrain Alvarez and Robbie Rogers have also won the award.
