CARSON, Calif. – Ema Boateng’s Messi-esque goal against Real Salt Lake was the runaway winner of the LA Galaxy’s Goal of the Month competition presented by 76 gas for the month of October.
Boateng’s winner in the Galaxy’s Western Conference Knockout Round match against Real Salt Lake on Oct. 26 eclipsed the competition with Giovani dos Santos’ tally against the Colorado Rapids finishing in second place in the voting.
The speedy Ghanaian’s goal occurred in the 26th minute of the Galaxy’s victory when Boateng left three Salt Lake defenders in the dust and then buried a shot from close range past goalkeeper Nick Rimando. Boateng later added a second to give Los Angeles a 3-1 win in the one-game playoff match.
Boateng joins Galaxy strikers Jack McBean, Ari Lassiter, Giovani dos Santos, and Academy prodigy Efrain Alvarez as winners of the monthly tournament.
