João Pedro's California Clásico heroics help create lasting bond with Special Olympics player | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified squad has created some special moments throughout its three-year existence, but perhaps none more memorable than a little exchange between SOSC midfielder Oliver Fiust and João Pedro.

The duo made an instant connection when Fiust re-signed for the Galaxy back in May because of their identical hairstyles. Their bond only grew when before the Galaxy’s California Clásico match with the San Jose Earthquakes, Fiust presented Pedro with a note imploring the Portuguese midfielder to score a goal in his honor.

Pedro delivered on Fiust’s request with a tally in the Galaxy’s 3-1 win over San Jose and immediately took to Instagram to tell his buddy of his accomplishment. The moment was not lost on Fiust who is still emotional about Pedro’s tally.

“I felt that it was amazing that he actually scored for me,” a smiling Fiust told LA Galaxy Insider. “You never see anyone that has the same hair, and I just wanted to give him a surprise and hope that he would score for me. It was great.”

Fiust and Pedro will both hope to lead their respective teams to victories over San Jose when the two men take part in a doubleheader at StubHub Center on Sunday. The Special Olympics contest will immediately follow the first team game and is free for all.

As the Galaxy squads look to their final Cali Clásico of the year, Fiust is hoping for a repeat.

“I’m hoping that João can score again and that the Galaxy can finally win at home again,” Fiust said.
