RGVFC sits 12th in the Western Conference table, just one spot ahead of LA Galaxy II. If Los Dos want any shot at the 2017 USL Cup Playoffs, they’ll need to get big points from the three games they play in seven days at StubHub Center. They face Reno 1868 FC on Wednesday, Sept. 6 followed by San Antonio FC on Saturday, Sept. 9.

In two away contests against Rio Grande, the Galaxy earned a 1-1 draw on May 27 followed by a 1-0 win on June 17. Justin Dhillon scored the equalizing goal in the team’s draw and Jonah Estrada notched the game-winning goal in second contest. The shutout win on June 17 marked Eric Lopez’s first ever professional shutout. Lopez is available for selection against after making a career-high eight saves against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2.

Despite last weekend’s loss to Vancouver, LA Galaxy II are playing some of their best soccer of the season, boosted by a renewal of their offensive attack. Ariel Lassiter has scored in his last two appearances, while Jack McBean has assisted in each of his last two appearances. Ethan Zubak has also proved more threatening, recording a goal and an assist in his last three matches.

Galaxy II have improved defensively as well, conceding just six goals in their last five matches – a big improvement for a team that has averaged two goals conceded per game on the season.

Los Dos have struggled at home though, holding just a 2-7-3 record at the StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium. Four months separated their two home wins this season, a slide ending recently when Los Dos earned a 1-0 shutout win against Orange County SC in early August.

As RGVFC try to mount a playoff push of their own, the team is winless in its last four contests. They are 3-7-2 on the road this season.
