Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy’s 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake presented by SNHU

CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the Galaxy’s 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake presented by SNHU.

GALAXY DOMINATE ONLY TO DROP POINTS LATE

The more things change, the more they stay the same for the LA Galaxy in 2017.

The Galaxy’s match with Real Salt Lake followed the same script as their game days earlier in Houston as Los Angeles dominated the proceedings and created ample opportunities only to surrender three points on a late equalizer. The dominance of Sigi Schmid’s team was apparent on the stat line as they out-shot (20 to 16), out-possessed (62.6 to 37.4) and out-passed (491 to 122) the visitors throughout the contest.

The draw will undoubtedly have the Galaxy boss frustrated temporarily, but as he formulates his team for next season, a second straight dominant performance will give him reason to feel optimistic.

BRADFORD JAMIESON IV’S ASCENT CONTINUES

Bradford Jamieson IV is coming into his own before our very eyes.

Jamieson scored for a second consecutive game on Saturday in the Galaxy’s draw with Real Salt Lake. The finish was a mature one as he completed an off-balance shot after a pinpoint delivery from Jermaine Jones. The finish was the highlight of active showing from the Academy product who made several intelligent runs to hassle Salt Lake defenders.

The Galaxy may be out of the postseason contention, but Jamieson’s continued development gives Sigi Schmid a positive at the tail end of the season. If the young striker can continue to impress in the final two games of the season, he’ll have a real opportunity at locking down a starting role with the team in 2018.

JERMAINE JONES AND JONATHAN DOS SANTOS SUPERB

The LA Galaxy’s central midfield tandem of Jermaine Jones and Jonathan dos Santos showed its quality on Saturday evening.

With Los Angeles up a man after Marcelo Silva’s red card in the 14th minute, the Galaxy’s midfield tandem were able to boss the center of the park and repeatedly played in intelligent passes through a stretched Salt Lake back four. The pair seemed to perfectly complement each other as Dos Santos was able to distribute from a deeper position, creating four chances of the evening. Dos Santos' deeper position freed Jones up to be active as he produced a pair of scoring opportunities and registered four tackles.

With Sigi Schmid’s squad eager to end the season on a high note, improved play by two of the team’s marquee players can only be a bright spot for the Galaxy to close out the campaign.
