Giovani dos Santos says third World Cup appearance with Mexico is a dream come true

CARSON, Calif. – It’s a “dream come true” for Giovani dos Santos.

The Mexican striker will get an opportunity to compete in his third FIFA World Cup after being named to the 23-man roster by Juan Carlos Osorio on Monday morning. Joining him is his brother and fellow LA Galaxy star, Jonathan dos Santos.

“It’s a dream come true. I’m proud and happy for this call-up,” dos Santos said. “It’s an honor for any footballer in the world to be in the World Cup, and I feel grateful.”

The Galaxy forward has made six appearances in MLS this season, scoring two goals. After speculation about his place on the El Tri roster due to his recent injury struggles, dos Santos secured his position with the game-winning goal in Mexico’s 1-0 win over Scotland in Mexico City last weekend.

Having grown from U-17 phenom to one of the finest Mexican players of his generation, dos Santos is ready to help lead Mexico to glory in Russia.

“It’s my third World Cup. People say it’s easy, but there have been many years of sacrifices and a lot of work put in.  But the truth is that I enjoy the process, and I’m thankful for my family for standing by me throughout the process," dos Santos said. "I hope that we make this a great world cup for all of Mexico.
