CARSON, Calif. – Zlatan Ibrahimović scored, but he was less than pleased after the LA Galaxy’s 1-1 draw with LAFC on Friday night.
The Galaxy’s Swedish striker scored his 499th career goal in the first half of the tie, but neither he nor the rest of the team’s attack could find a decisive second tally. Following another heated match between the two sides, Ibrahimović was frank with his criticism.
“It was an easy game. We should have won easy. I know when I play the games that if it was difficult, I would say it. If it was impossible, I would say it, but the game was easy,” he said.
“We were much better than them until the final part of the field where we should have destroyed them, but we didn’t, and we gave them one point.”
The stats seem to reinforce his claim as the Galaxy conceded 63 percent of their passes in the attacking half and 69 percent of their attempts in the final third. In crosses as well, the team connected 24 percent to 25 percent from the visitors.
“We always want to get Ibra involved, I thought we could have done better, including myself maybe,” midfielder Sebastian Lletget said. “It could have been better. It’s a shame that they had the penalty, but I thought we had them until that point.”
Despite falling to win, the Galaxy still captured the season series with LAFC with a 1-0-2 record, but that meant “nothing” to Ibrahimović.
“I prefer to win the trophy than to win against them,” he said. “Like I said, it was an easy game. We are much better than them.”
