LA Galaxy Foundation hosted second annual Shoes That Fit event

Shoes That Fit Event

On August 30th, the LA Galaxy Foundation hosted their second annual Shoes That Fit event at Catskill Avenue Elementary School. Shoes That Fit is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids improve their self-esteem by providing low-income youth with a pair of shoes so they can go to school in comfort and focus on their studies instead of their circumstances.

For this Galaxy Giving event, LA Galaxy staff, LA Galaxy Girls’ Academy, and the LA Galaxy Foundation adopted 100 elementary students and outfitted them in brand new athletic shoes.

To kick-off the shoes distribution, Catskill Avenue Elementary School Principal, Suzanne Zopatti, and Galaxy II forward, Ethan Zubak, greeted and welcomed the students. All students were lined up based on their grade level with their new athletic shoes neatly placed in front of them. Galaxy II players, Star Squad and Cozmo distributed and helped the students try on their new shoes.

After the shoe distribution, LA Galaxy Camps and Clinic coaches set up five soccer stations for the youth to break in their new athletic shoes. The coaches rotated the youth between shooting, passing, and scrimmage stations with Galaxy II players joining in on the fun. After the clinic, Galaxy II players autographed the students water bottles, t-shirts, and new shoes to commemorate the special day.
