Match Preview: LA Galaxy II search for three points on the road against Reno 1868 FC

Match Preview vs. Reno 9.15

LA Galaxy II (9-14-6, 33 points) return to Nevada to face Reno 1868 FC (11-7-9, 42 points) at 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Greater Nevada Field. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

LA Galaxy II will hope to turn the tide after a disappointing result at home against OKC Energy FC. In the mid-week contest, Los Dos were on the board first after Frank Lopez effortlessly scored a penalty kick in the 12th minute. However, OKC earned the comeback win after recording three unanswered goals.

This result is a slight hiccup in the team’s hopes of reaching post-season play. LA Galaxy II remain 13th in the USL Western Conference standings, just five spots and ten points away from playoff contention with five games remaining. LA Galaxy II will host Real Monarchs SLC and Sacramento Republic FC for their final two home games. After facing Reno 1868 FC on Saturday, Los Dos will travel for two more away games against Seattle Sounders FC 2 and Swope Park Rangers.

Los Dos face a Reno side that is also fighting for a playoff spot. Reno 1868 FC sit just one spot outside of post-season contention. Reno return home to Greater Nevada Field after a difficult two-game stint on the road. In their most recent contest, Reno were unable to find a result in a dramatic game against Saint Louis FC. After going down a goal in the first half, frustration boiled over when Reno captain, Jordan Murrell was shown a second yellow card. They were unable to find an equalizing goal and left Saint Louis empty-handed.

A refocused LA Galaxy II team will hope to take advantage of their opponent’s most recent loss as the sides face each other for the second time this year. Los Dos will look to channel momentum from their last away game, which resulted in a 2-1 victory over the Las Vegas Lights. The Galaxy will look to continue their winning ways in Nevada on Saturday.
