San Jose Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy
Stanford Stadium — Stanford

A longstanding rivalry is renewed as Round 1 of the California Clasico between the San Jose Earthquakes and the LA Galaxy is set for Stanford Stadium Saturday night.
The Quakes (6-6-4) enter the match unbeaten in their last five and moved above the playoff line and into sixth place in the Western Conference following a 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo Wednesday night at Avaya Stadium. Vako struck for a brace, scoring a goal in each half and nearly added a third if not for a quality Joe Willis save. The Georgian international has five goals in his last three games in all competitions.
The Galaxy (10-6-1) returned from the Gold Cup break to beat FC Cincinnati at a sold-out Nippert Stadium last Saturday. Emmanuel Boateng and Favio Alvarez scored three minutes apart inside the opening 15 minutes to give the visitors a two-goal lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Since the start of the 2003 season, the Earthquakes have lost just three of their 23 league home games against the Galaxy (12W-8D). They have been held scoreless in just four of those matches, per Opta.
