Match Preview: LA Galaxy face Club Tijuana in inaugural Leagues Cup

LOS ANGELES – The LA Galaxy will play their first match in the inaugural Leagues Cup this Tuesday against Liga MX neighbors Club Tijuana.

The match will represent a major challenge for head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto who must balance his squad ahead of this weekend's clash with the Portland Timbers. With several LA Galaxy II players included in the 23-man roster, Schelotto believes that Tuesday's contest will be a valuable tool to evaluate the talent at his disposal.

“This game is very important for me to make some future decisions about the players," he said on Monday. "They know what I will ask of them tomorrow, but it’s a big opportunity for them. Big, very big.”

Tijuana are loaded with Major League Soccer connections boasting former FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja and ex-Chivas USA man Miller Bolanos among others. Galaxy midfielder Joe Corona boasts plenty of experience with the Xolos having made 195 appearances for the club during two separate stints.

The winner of the match will advance to the Leagues Cup semifinals and face the winner of the Chicago Fire vs. Cruz Azul contest.
