Fresh off emotional derby wins in their regular season restart, the LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders hope to keep that momentum rolling when they face each other Wednesday night at Dignity Health Sports Complex.

The Galaxy earned revenge from an embarrassing MLS is Back defeat by knocking off LAFC for the first time at Banc of California Stadium Saturday, while the Sounders handed Cascadia Cup rival Portland a stinging 3-0 defeat at Providence Park Sunday.

There's usually no shortage of goals when these teams meet. Last year, they played to a 2-2 draw in Carson before the Sounders rallied at CenturyLink Field in a seven-goal thriller.

LA Galaxy

Perhaps its a bit dramatic to say the Galaxy saved their season Saturday at Banc of California Stadium, but they couldn't have asked for a bigger, more meaningful first win of the 2020 season than to beat LAFC at their home, exorcising some of the demons from that 6-2 defeat in Orlando

“We knocked them off their high horse,” said Galaxy midfielder Sebastian Lletget, who scored the insurance goal after Ethan Zubak's opener. “I know they did what they did in Orlando to us, but we have to focus on now and hopefully we shut them up a little bit.”

While Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez was out with a calf injury, fellow Designated Player Jonathan dos Santos came off the substitute's bench for his first minutes in nearly six months after being sidelined following hernia surgery.

Seattle Sounders

Similarly the Sounders knew all the praise the Timbers were receiving for their MLS is Back Tournament championship run while they were disappointed to have bowed out in the Round of 16 against LAFC. With Raul Ruidiaz scoring a brace in a 3-0 win at Providence Park, the Sounders restart to their season was a "fresh start," according to goalkeeper Stefan Frei.

"We've been sputtering a little bit," Frei told reporters on a video call after the game. "I think we haven't been playing our best football. So, we kind of viewed it as a chance to restart and maybe just get a fresh start, if you will, so happy to see the way we played today.

"I'm happy to get a result down here, as always."
