Starting XI presented Modelo: LA Galaxy vs. San Jose Earthquakes | Oct. 14, 2020

Lineup notes:

  • Wednesday night soccer! After a postponement of Saturday’s match vs. Colorado, the LA Galaxy are back in action as Guillermo Barros Schelotto will trot out a lineup with some changes to the typical regulars: Klinsmann in the net and Yony Gonzalez makes his debut start.
  • U.S. keeper Jonathan Klinsmann will debut for the LA Galaxy on Wednesday evening after signing earlier this year. Klinsmann, a product of Southern California, joined with experience on Hertha BSC in Germany and various U.S. Men’s National Team youth sides throughout his career.
  • On the right side of defense is speedster Julian Araujo, who continues his career year with the Galaxy. In his last game, Julian SCORED A BANGER.
  • In the middle is the veteran Daniel Steres, the mainstay of the Galaxy defense over the past few years. Steres remains an important part of the Galaxy backline and will look to help lock things down Wednesday vs. San Jose after conceding six vs. Portland last week.
  • Alongside Steres is Nick DePuy, a former forward turned stout defender and steady contributor for LA. Steres and DePuy have started 11-straight as the central defender pairing.
  • On the left is Emiliano Insua, the veteran Argentine with experience playing at the top levels throughout Europe. Insua has been a steady addition to what was previously a rotating left back spot for LA.
  • On the right side of the midfield is Sebastian Lletget, who has tallied six goals and two assists this year, one goal shy of his career high goalscoring in a season with LA. Lletget will provide service and possession on the wing during Wednesday’s game.
  • In the middle, making his second-straight start is the veteran Sacha Kljestan, who will bring with him 249 starts in MLS.
  • Alongside Kljestan in the center is Perry Kitchen, who recently made his 200th start in MLS. Kitchen has been a regular this season for LA.
  • On the left is the talented Cristian Pavon, who has seven goals and six assists this year in 15 starts. He and Insua will be the only two players to start every match this season.
  • Up top, making his debut start is Yony Gonzalez, the speedy Colombian attacker who was signed earlier this year on loan from Portugal’s Benfica. Yony will look to provide a spark to the Galaxy offense.
  • Up top is Javier Hernandez, who returns to the XI after missing last week’s match due to the birth of his second child. Hernandez will lead the Galaxy offense Wednesday.

Game notes:

  • The Galaxy are 32-25-16 all time against the San Jose Earthquakes.
  • LA are 3-2-1 when scoring first and 1-6-1 when conceding first this season.
  • The Galaxy’s three goals last match were their highest output since Sept. 6.
  • LA will be without Jonathan dos Santos and Rolf Feltscher, who are away on international duty.

Storylines:

  • Can the Galaxy snap the streak and get a result Wednesday?
  • How will Klinsmann and Yony Gonzalez fare in the starting XI?
  • Can the defense bounce back from last weekend’s match vs. Portland?
  • Can Pavon keep his form for LA?
  • How will Yony Gonzalez and Chicharito pair up top?

Quick notes:

Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me Lyrics – Elton John

I can't light no more of your darkness

All my pictures seem to fade to black and white

I'm growing tired and time stands still before me

Frozen here on the ladder of my life

Too late to save myself from falling

I took a chance and changed your way of life

But you misread my meaning when I met you

Closed the door and left me blinded by the light

Don't let the sun go down on me

Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see

I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free

But losing everything is like the sun going down on me

I can't find the right romantic line

But see me once and see the way I feel

Don't discard me just because you think I mean you harm

But these cuts I have they need love to help them heal

Don't let the sun go down on me

(Don't let the sun)

Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see

I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free

(Don't let the sun)

But losing everything is like the sun going down on me

Don't let the sun go down on me

(Don't let the sun)

Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see

I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free

(Don't let the sun)

But losing everything is like the sun going down on me
