Because it's a bye week, here's my top five Steven Gerrard goals

Because it's a bye week, I decided to look back at my five favorite goals scored during the illustrious career of LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard.

5) HIS FIRST GOAL FOR THE GALAXY IN HIS MLS DEBUT AGAINST SAN JOSE

Steven Gerrard introduced himself to the LA Galaxy supporters immediately with a goal in his first MLS match against the hated San Jose Earthquakes.

The goal was vintage Gerrard as the Englishman started the play with a smart run forward, and then found himself in the right place at the right time for the easy finish.

4) THE VOLLEY AGAINST MIDDLESBOROUGH IN 2006

Everyone knows about Steven Gerrard's beautiful finish against Olympiakos, but one of his less-heralded strikes against Middlesborough might be much better.

The finish itself is a beautiful volley that curled past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
3) HIS FIRST GOAL AGAINST MANCHESTER UNITED IN 2001

Steven Gerrard and Liverpool FC had some fantastic battles against Manchester United, but the Liverpudlian struck first blood in the rivalry in 2001.

In his Premier League game against United, the youngster received the ball in plenty of space and then delivered a bomb for his first of nine goals against the Red Devils.
2) THE LEGENDARY GOAL AT ISTANBUL

Gerrard's strike in the 2005 Champions League Final was not the most beautiful goal, but certainly the most significant.

With Liverpool down three goals in the second half to A.C. Milan, Gerrard nodded in a cross to start a rally for the ages. When Gerrard's career is all said and done, his ability to lead Liverpool FC to the 2005 Champions League will be considered his crowning achievement.

1) THE LASER STRIKE AGAINST WEST HAM UNITED IN THE FA CUP FINAL 2006

Perhaps the finest goal that Gerrard ever scored was in stoppage time of the FA Cup Final when the Liverpool FC captain blasted a rocket past Shaka Hislop to give LFC the silverware.

The goal itself was a rocket as Gerrard blasted his shot from beyond 35 yards for a finish of the ages.
