ORLANDO, Fla. – LA Galaxy head coach Curt Onalfo spoke to reporters following the Galaxy’s 2-1 defeat to Orlando City SC on Saturday.
(On the result…)
“I’m disappointed because how hard we fought to get the equalizer. We conceded late and that’s disappointing because it’s hard to get points on the road. We traveled all the way across the country and you go down early, and we kept fighting to get chances. We felt like it was coming and then it came and I’m disappointed that we didn’t close it out properly to get the point.”
(On the team conceding first for the fifth time in six games…)
“Every game is different. The crowd had a lot of energy, they had a lot of energy to start. It’s a difficult environment to play and a lot of travel. They were better to start the game and we just kept grinding and grinding. That shows our fortitude and our will within. We positioned ourselves to get a point. We just have to defend and defend well. Sometimes you get a second opportunity, but that’s not what you need to be focused on. You just need to defend better and take the point home.”
(On if he was disappointed with the marking on the winning set piece…)
“Obviously, yeah. For me, it’s more than that. It’s not about pointing fingers. It’s that we win together and we lose together. We shouldn’t have been in a situation where we gave up a corner kick in my opinion. That’s something that we have to tidy up and we have to continue to get better.”
(On what the team has to learn from the result…)
“We have to build, we have to learn, and we have to get better. That’s what our group does. It’s a long season and you’re going to have ups and downs. It’s how you respond to them. We’ll learn from this. We’ll grow from this.”
(On the team’s ability to rebound after conceding the early goal…)
“We kept fighting. We executed our game plan well, other than conceding. We moved the ball well, we created chances wide. We didn’t make enough runs in behind in the first half and we adjusted to make more in the second. I thought we were very dangerous in the second half. It’s really unfortunate that we didn’t get a point.”
