LOS ANGELES -- Giovani dos Santos was awarded the Excellence in Sports Award at the LA Times Latinos de Hoy Awards hosted by the Los Angeles Times and Hoy.
Fox Sports analyst Fernando Fiore and UFC fighter Henry Cejudo presented Dos Santos with the award at the conclusion of the ceremony.
"It is such an honor to receive this award. I’m extremely humbled by the way that this community has taken me into their arms," Dos Santos said in his award speech. "Today’s Latino community exemplifies hard work, passion and a commitment to building a better life for our next generation. This award showcases how my successes in soccer can serve as an inspiration to youth across Southern California, Latin America, and the world.
"Thank you to the Los Angeles Times and Hoy for their continued support of me, the LA Galaxy and Mexico. I also want to thank God and my family for all of their support."
