CARSON, Calif. – Giovani dos Santos is determined to add to his storied World Cup legacy for Mexico and lead El Tri into the quarterfinals for the first time in more than 30 years.
Dos Santos was named to head coach Juan Carlos Osorio’s preliminary roster for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Monday alongside his brother and Galaxy teammate Jonathan. An appearance at the tournament in Russia will be the third of Giovani’s storied international career.

Success with Mexico is nothing new for dos Santos who helped his country win their first U-17 World Cup title in 2005 and their only Olympic Gold Medal in 2012. Now as he prepares for Russia, dos Santos is eager to help El Tri return to the quarterfinals.
“I want to make more of a legacy for my country. I had the pleasure to go to the last two World Cups and especially in the last one, we were so close to making it [to the quarterfinals],” Dos Santos, who scored at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, told LAGalaxy.com earlier this year. “I am 29 and looking to keep my legacy growing.”
