After holding tryouts in Houston and Chicago, SueƱo MLS hits Los Angeles this weekend.
The Glendale Sports Complexālocated about two miles from the Mountain St. exit off the 2 Highway at 2200 Fern Lane, Glendale, CA 91208ā will be the site of the LA Galaxyās SueƱo tryouts, which begin this Saturday and are expected to draw more than 800 soccer hopefuls.
Whether they are making a short drive from here in Los Angeles or coming in from out of state, all of the participants are looking to achieve one thing: Their SueƱo.
The dream begins in Glendale
Now in its fourth year, SueƱo MLS, which means MLS Dream in English, will be staged by three teams, including first-time host, Houston Dynamo, as well as returning hosts, the Chicago Fire and LA Galaxy. Up to 400 tryout spots will be made available at each city on a first come, first serve basis. In past years, spots have filled up in only a few hours following the start of registration ā This year was no exception as all spots filled up in less than 24 hours after the announcement was made on Sunday, March 21.
There will be walk up registration available at the Glendale Sports Complex for those that havenāt registered yet. Registration will open at 9 a.m. and those interested are asked to arrive early.
Whatās at stake
In each city, players will be battling for an invitation to a week-long trial with their respective host club. Five from each city will ultimately be invited to an exciting five-day āFinal Eventā in Los Angeles. The finals will include training sessions, scrimmages, guest celebrity scouts, and an opportunity to meet some of the biggest stars in MLS. The ultimate champion will be crowned on Sunday, May 9, on āRepĆŗblica Deportivaā, the highest-rated weekly sports magazine program on Spanish-language television in the United States which airs nationally every Sunday.
Eligible players must be between the ages of 14 and 18 years old (with appropriate identification) and retain their amateur status. Current collegiate student athletes will not be permitted to attend the final event in Los Angeles. SueƱo MLS participants will be responsible for all personal expenses associated with the local market tryout, including travel to local tryouts, lodging, food, soccer equipment (shoes, training gear, etc.), etc. Program sponsors will cover all expenses for fifteen (15) participants selected to attend the final event in Los Angeles. For more information, please visit www.SuenoMLS.com. Participation in the event is free. Players may not register for more than one city.
Last Year
This is the second year the Galaxy has hosted the LA tryouts of SueƱo MLS. Last year, at the San Bernardino Soccer Complex, the club and its participants had a great time, especially those that had the opportunity to hear what forward Edson Buddle, defender Omar Gonzalez and midfielders Stefani Miglioranzi and Dema Kovalenko had to say prior to their tryout.
