CARSON, Calif. – Gyasi Zardes could return to the LA Galaxy for the first time since last August on Saturday.
Zardes, who has been sidelined with a knee injury since returning from the U.S. National Team camp, has trained for the past two weeks and is expected to be available for the game against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The return is the end of a long road for Zardes, who has not played a professional game since last August when he suffered a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot in a match with Vancouver.
“It’s a long time off. It’s great to be healthy back with the team, to travel with the boys and feel like one of the guys again. I’m really looking forward to this weekend," Zardes told reporters. "It was hard being hurt because I want to help my teammates in every situation. I really learned patience and it’s great that I have so many understanding teammates who included me in things which went a long way to help me which goes a long way.
"I’m back to 100 percent. It’s going to take some time and a few games, but that’s what I enjoy and I’m looking forward to it. I’m very excited to step on the field. When the coach calls my name, it’s going to be overwhelming. I really feel thankful to be healthy again and I look forward to helping my teammate in anyway possible.
