LOS ANGELES (Friday, Aug.26, 2022) – The LA Galaxy today announced that LA Galaxy II head coach Yoann Damet has joined Head Coach Greg Vanney’s coaching staff as an assistant coach. Marcelo Sarvas, who served as the LA Galaxy Academy U-19 Head Coach this year, has been named the LA Galaxy II Head Coach.
“We are pleased to add Yoann to the first team staff and appreciative of the good work he’s done with GII this season,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach Greg Vanney. “Like our player pathway, this was a part of the bigger development plan for Yoann as we brought him to the Galaxy. His skill set, game knowledge and understanding of MLS will be important for our players and team as we continue to build forward.”  Â
Through 26 matches played during the 2022 USL Championship Regular Season, Damet led Galaxy II to a 9-11-6 record. Los Dos’ 42 goals scoring this season ranks eighth in the USL Championship. Prior to joining the Galaxy organization, Damet, 32, served as an assistant coach for the U-20 United StatesMen’s Youth National Team that participated in the Revelations Cup in November of 2021. Prior to his stint with the USMYNT, Damet, who holds a U.S. Soccer Pro License, was part of FC Cincinnati’s coaching staff (2017-21), where he was an assistant coach and served as interim head coach in 2019 and 2020.Â
“We are pleased to name Marcelo as the head coach of LA Galaxy II,” said LA Galaxy Director of Methodology and Development Michael Muñoz. “As the Head Coach of our older teams within the academy, Marcelo has a strong understanding of our club’s philosophy and how to produce young pros. He has worked very closely with Yoann, his staff and the Galaxy II players throughout the course of the year and we are confident he will continue to strengthen the player pathway into the first team.”
Sarvas, 40, joined the LA Galaxy Academy in 2020 after previously spending time with the Colorado Rapids Academy (2019-20). The Sao Paulo, Brazil, native, who holds U.S. Soccer Federation “A” and “B” licenses, was named the LA Galaxy Academy U-19 head coach after leading the Galaxy Academy U-17s to the Round of 16 of the 2022 Generation adidas Cup and to the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs Round of 32. In three seasons playing for the Galaxy (2012-14), Sarvas helped LA win MLS Cups in 2012 and 2014.
Juninho, who coached alongside Sarvas, will serve as the LA Galaxy Academy’s U-19 head coach. Prior to his time with the U-19s, Juninho, 33, was the Galaxy Academy’s U-14 coach from 2020-21 before joining Sarvas with the U-17s. The Galaxy Academy’s U-19 team will make their United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) regular-season debut on Saturday, Aug. 27. In seven seasons playing for the Galaxy (2010-2015, 2019), Juninho helped LA win three MLS Cups (2011, 2012, 2014) and two Supporters’ Shield titles (2010, 2011).
