LA Galaxy and AEG invest over $15 million dollars into StubHub Center

CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014) – The LA Galaxy and AEG announced today that the club will invest over $15 million dollars to improve facilities and the fan experience at StubHub Center, the Home of the LA Galaxy. Highlighting the multi-faceted improvements to StubHub Center will be the largest LED video board in Major League Soccer and dedicated locker rooms and training facilities for the Galaxy’s player development program including LA Galaxy II and the LA Galaxy Academy.

“Our company philosophy is to reinvest in our core assets and these improvements will help to maintain the StubHub Center’s status as one of the best and most state-of-the-art facilities in North America,” said Dan Beckerman, President and CEO of AEG. “When our team devised the plan for these enhancements, our focus was on improving the facility for our fans, our players and our sponsors.”

As part of improvements to the fan experience at StubHub Center, the club will build a 5,100 square foot LED video board above the berm behind the North goal. The video board will be the largest in MLS and will rival most NFL video boards in size and resolution. The Galaxy will further brand StubHub Center, including dedicated merchandise stores, the concourse, player tunnel and surrounding walls on the outside of the stadium.

“These additional resources and investments speak to Mr. Anschutz’s and AEG’s continued commitment to the Galaxy, our first team, our facility, our player development program, and our fans” said Chris Klein, President of the LA Galaxy. “These innovations place the Galaxy at the forefront of player development and fan experience. The commitment to our fans includes a 14% average decrease in 2015 Season Ticket prices. This well-rounded investment maintains the LA Galaxy’s status as the best club in North America, on and off the field.”

The Galaxy’s investment into player development will continue as the club will renovate the stadium to include additional first team training facilities and dedicated locker rooms, treatment facilities and training fields for LA Galaxy II and the Galaxy Academy. StubHub Center will house dedicated locker rooms for Academy U-14, U-16 and U-18 programs. The player development training facilities will be concurrent with that of the Galaxy first team, allowing youth players to play and develop amidst the most professional environment possible.

In the past 18 months the Galaxy and StubHub Center have made upwards of $3.5 million dollars in improvements to the soccer specific stadium. The Galaxy built the Champions Lounge, an all-inclusive premium club which opened July 4, 2013. The City National Bank Club was built and also opened July 4, 2013. In 2014, the Galaxy and StubHub Center partnered with Rock & Brews to open its first stadium venue location. In addition, the soccer specific stadium has also built additional bar and concession areas throughout the stadium to provide an all-encompassing food and beverage experience at StubHub Center.

StubHub Center, the first state-of-the-art soccer-specific stadium and training facility in MLS, has served as host for some of the biggest soccer matches in the region since it opened in 2003, including back-to-back MLS Cups in 2011 and 2012, both of which were won by the Galaxy.

Managed by AEG Facilities, the $150 million, privately-financed facility was developed by AEG on a 125-acre site on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) in Carson, California. StubHub Center features an 8,000-seat tennis stadium, a 27,000-seat stadium for soccer, football and other athletic competitions and outdoor concerts, a 2,000-seat facility for track & field and a 2,450-seat indoor Velodrome – the VELO Sports Center – for track cycling. StubHub Center is also home of the United States Tennis Association’s (USTA) High Performance Training Center, the national team training headquarters for the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and EXOS, an international training center for elite and professional athletes.
