CARSON, Calif. (Monday, November 21, 2011) – The LA Galaxy today announced the club’s lists of protected and unprotected players for Wednesday’s MLS Expansion Draft. The Montreal Impact will become the 19th club to join Major League Soccer when they begin play in 2011. They will be able to select 10 players in Wednesday’s Expansion Draft, though no team can lose more than one player. The results of the Expansion Draft will be announced at 12 p.m. (PT).
Each of the 18 teams that competed in MLS during the 2011 season were allowed to protect 11 players, as well as any Generation adidas or Homegrown players, leaving all others unprotected. That means that the Galaxy were also able to protect 16-year-old forward Jack McBean, a Homegrown player who signed with the club directly from the Galaxy Academy in January, in addition to the 11 players that they selected to protect.
