SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Exactly three weeks after gathering for preseason physicals, the LA Galaxy hit the road for the first time as a team, flying to Phoenix for the start of a 10-day training camp. The club will hold seven training sessions and play three games while visiting the Grand Canyon State, facing the defending MLS Cup champion Colorado Rapids on February 16 and the expansion Vancouver Whitecaps FC on both February 20 and February 22.
A total of 26 players will take to the field in Tempe on Monday for the first training session of the trip, the third time in Arizona for the club in as many years, though just 24 were on Sunday’s morning flight from LAX, Gregg Berhalter arrived later in the day while Adam Cristman will be arriving on Monday night. In addition to the 26 players, a total of 13 coaches and staff members made the trip, giving the club a sizable travelling party, not to mention more than enough bags to fill up (and more) the bus that took the team from Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport to the team’s hotel.
The squad was given the night off before getting down to work for the first time on Monday afternoon. In addition to their training sessions, the team will make a handful of visits, including one on Monday, to the Athlete’s Performance facility in Phoenix, one of the region’s most state-of-the-art fitness centers.
