LOS ANGELES – The LA Galaxy slipped in the MLS Power rankings presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment after a mixed week of results.
The Galaxy defeated Real Salt Lake on Wednesday to clinch a berth in the 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs but fell on the weekend to Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Los Angeles return to action on Sunday with a clash against Houston Dynamo knowing that a win will secure a home playoff match.
“The capitulation to cap off the weekend by LA turned a draw into a loss, but that obscures the totally professional midweek win on the road. Cristian Pavon has smoothed out some bumps, but obviously, at this point, we know the Galaxy's calling card is their sheer unpredictability, which should be fascinating in the playoffs.”
“At RSL, Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored his 28th goal of the season to secure a playoff berth; against Vancouver on Sunday he scored his 29th, but the defense didn't hold up its end of the bargain against the Whitecaps as a late goal in the 4-3 defeat pushed the Galaxy from third place to fourth in the West. GACK. Double gack. So much gack.”
