LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016) – LA Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the 27th week of the 2016 MLS season. Dos Santos earns POTW honors for the second time this season, also winning in Week 7 of the 2016 MLS Regular Season.
Dos Santos earns Week 27 POTW honors after recording four goals and three assists in just two matches last week. Dos Santos notched two goals and an assist in a midweek 3-3 road draw against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday. Dos Santos then followed up with two goals and two assists in a 4-2 win over Orlando City SC Sunday at StubHub Center. The Mexican international played a hand in each of the Galaxy’s seven goals last week.
On the year, Dos Santos now has recorded 14 goals and 11 assists, ranking in the top five of each category. Dos Santos is now only one of two players league-wide to register double-digit goal and assist totals, with his 14 goals tied for fourth and his 11 assists tied for third. LA currently sits second in the Western Conference standings (47 points, 11-4-14), and is riding a five-game unbeaten streak.
