CARSON, Calif. (Friday, Aug. 29 2014) – LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane and goalkeeper Jaime Penedo have earned call ups to their respective national teams for September matches, the club announced today. Keane will represent the Republic of Ireland in a Sept. 3 friendly against Oman in Dublin, Ireland before traveling to face Georgia for a UEFA EURO 2016 Qualifying Match Sept. 7. Penedo will join Panama for Central America Cup matches against Costa Rica in Dallas, Tex. (Sept. 7) and Nicaragua in Houston, Tex. (Sept. 10).


Keane and Penedo will both miss the Galaxy’s match Sept. 5 against the Colorado Rapids. Penedo will also be unavailable for the match Sept. 10 against the Montreal Impact.


Keane, 34, is Ireland’s captain and all-time leading goal scorer with 62 goals. Since earning his first call up in 1998, the veteran forward has made 133 appearances for his country. For the Galaxy, Keane has scored 13 goals and notched 11 assists this year. In his career, the Irishman has tallied 47 goals and 32 assists in MLS play.


Penedo, 32, has made over 90 appearances for his native Panama, including matches in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, the CONCACAF Gold Cup and UNCAF Nations Cup. Penedo has started in 22 matches in MLS play this year, compiling a 11-5-6 record. Since joining the Galaxy last year, the veteran shot stopper has a 15-6-10 record and a 1.06 goals against average in addition to nine shutouts.
