(Thursday, June 2, 2016) – The LA Galaxy are set to host UPSL side La Máquina at StubHub Center at 7:30 p.m. PT on Tuesday, June 14, in the fourth round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the longest-standing domestic tournament in the country. LA Wolves and La Máquina faced off Wednesday evening at Westminster High School in the third round of the tournament, with La Máquina earning a 2-0 win over their fellow United Premier Soccer League counterparts.
The Galaxy have recorded a 27-15-1 all-time record in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. They have entered the Open Cup every year since 1999, winning the tournament in 2001 and 2005 while reaching the Open Cup Final on two other occasions. Last year, the Galaxy fell to Real Salt Lake in the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, recognized as U.S. Soccer's National Club Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. The tournament has crowned a champion for over 100 consecutive years dating from 1914. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor American soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.
