LA Galaxy to Host TreePeople Inglewood volunteer day this Friday

CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, April 19, 2016) – The LA Galaxy have partnered with TreePeople, a non-profit organization working to grow a green and climate-resilient Los Angeles, to host Inglewood Volunteer Day at Edward Vincent Park in Inglewood, CA, this Friday, April 22, from 10:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. PT as part of the club’s year-long community initiative, LA Galaxy Foundation Fridays.

LA Galaxy legend Landon Donovan, the entire LA Galaxy Academy, LA Galaxy and StubHub Center staff members will be on hand as the Galaxy help beautify the park, with initiatives including deep-watering trees, building watering basins to ensure the water feeds the trees’ roots, pulling weeds and spreading mulch. As a proud sponsor of the LA Galaxy, Chick-fil-A Franchisee’s of the Greater Los Angeles Area will be onsite serving lunch and handing out Be Our Guest cards to volunteers that are redeemable for one of five free food items in Greater Los Angeles Chick-fil-A restaurants.

LA Galaxy Foundation Fridays is a year-long initiative of dedicated community service projects throughout Los Angeles that feature LA Galaxy staff, alumni, Academy teams, alliance clubs, and supporter groups in one-day volunteer opportunities each month. The Galaxy kicked off Foundation Fridays with a Community Paint Day at Hawthorne Memorial Park and have also participated in an American Red Cross Blood Drive. The Foundation Fridays follows the LA Galaxy’s 20 for Twenty, a year-long community outreach program that saw the implementation of over 100 community service projects to celebrate the club’s 20th season in MLS. Overall, 415 LA Galaxy volunteers spent over 2,000 hours in the Los Angeles community in various service projects, including welcoming 100 high school girls to attend the Galaxy’s first Women’s Soccer Seminar, signing the LA Galaxy Special Olympics team, donating over 5,700 tickets to non-profit youth groups, and contributing over half a million dollars to community programs and national non-profits, among others.
