LA Galaxy II (12-7-11, 47 points) travel to face Swope Park Rangers (14-10-6, 48 points) in the first round of the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs at 5:30 p.m. PT on Friday, Sept. 30 at Children’s Mercy Victory Field at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo. With a 3-1 win in their regular season home finale against Real Monarchs SLC, Los Dos finished fifth in the Western Conference for the second consecutive season.
Last year, Los Dos were crowned 2015 USL Western Conference Champions with a 2-1 win over OKC Energy FC. They were ultimately defeated 2-1 by Rochester Rhinos in their first USL Cup appearance.
In the team’s meeting with Real Monarchs SLC, Ariel Lassiter, Raul Mendiola and Adonis Amaya all scored to give Los Dos their second win of the season over Rio Grande. It was Lassiter’s ninth goal of the season and his sixth goal in his last seven appearances.
All-time, Los Dos are 3-2-0 in the postseason and 2-0-0 in first round matchups. LA is 4-5-6 on the road this season. Galaxy II have faced Swope Park Rangers, an 2016 expansion club and affiliate of Sporting Kansas City, only once; Los Dos lost 2-1 to SPR back on Aug. 27 in Kansas City.
