CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy legend David Beckham received the PFA Merit Award for his achievements for club and country at a ceremony in London on Sunday.
Beckham, 41, enjoyed a storied 22-year professional career that saw the English midfielder make stops with legendary clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, the Galaxy, A.C. Milan, and Paris St. Germain. On an international level, Beckham served as a longtime captain of the English national team, appearing 115 times for the Three Lions and leading them to three World Cups.
"The PFA's such an important part of the game, to be awarded this is special," Beckham said. "I was lucky to have the career I had, to have played with the teams I played for, with the managers I've had, and obviously the team-mates I've had, it's been a special career for me - 22 years.
"I played in different countries, and obviously represented my country for the amount of times I did. I feel very blessed."
