On how the end of the match unfolded:
"I think if the officials look at the last 15 minutes of that game they’d be very disappointed in the performance. That was a poor display in the last 15 minutes.”
On how Steven Gerrard performed:
“Gerrard played well, had a very good second half.”
On if it was a tactical decision to play on the left side in the second half:
“No. We’re not going one side or the other. We’re reacting to what’s going on at the time.”
On if they’re going to appeal the red card on Ashley Cole:
“I would think so. I think it was a very poor call and that whole thing was poorly done so I would anticipate we would do that.”
LA GALAXY DEFENDER A.J. DELAGARZA
On how the team can correct mistakes:
“I mean we’re not going to keep everyone from getting a shot on goal every game so it’s going to happen. It’s just where is it happening? How is it happening? Brian [Rowe] made some pretty good saves tonight I think and I don’t fault him at all. They just got a goal.”
On what happened on that goal:
“First, I thought that was the softest foul I ever saw in my life. Not even a foul, but beyond that they just put the ball in the box. For me Chad [Barrett] was never on the onside position because he was always behind me so I kept trying to push him offside and keep him back there. Whether our line wasn’t together, or the ref missed a call.”
On what happened when the ref came back and gave Ashley Cole a red card right after the yellow:
“I think we were all confused because we were like Ashley [Cole] didn’t have a yellow already so why give him a red and then he changed his mind. He said well I should’ve given him a red at first. I think a lot of people were confused as to if he got a yellow, who got a red, or what happened. Ashley was staying on the field because he really didn’t know what was going on.”
On how they get out of this funk:
“I think today we had a lot of fight. A lot of heart. And that’s what it takes to win. We need one and I think in this league you get one and you can go on a roll. You see Colorado is on an 11-game unbeaten streak and are they going to keep that up the whole way? Probably not. That’s what happens in this league. Teams will start hot and slow down or start slow and heat up, so we have to get one under our belt and tonight was a good opportunity for that and we didn’t take advantage.”
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR
On Shea Salinas' performance:
"He gained us some territory similar to last week. He served us a good ball for the goal and made an impact. You want guys to come on and make a difference. I think he's done that two weeks in a row which is good."
On losing Victor Bernardez early to injury:
"You just have to deal with it. Looking down the bench we don't really have a center back per se. Fatai [Alashe] is the next one in line. We just thought of what's the best combination to get our midfield in sync with the backline. Fatai was there last year too, which made it easy for us. It was just the thought of who do we put in for him."
On if the result was fair:
"They came out and had good chances in the second half. I thought it was a soft goal to give up; the ball was in the air a long time. Saying that I thought we had good chances. We were good for a goal."
On Chad Barrett's play:
"He was a threat. We started crossing the ball a little bit more and we became more dangerous. Obviously his play when he hit the crossbar in the first half was a good play by him. You hope that he would get one more chance. Luckily for us it fell to him and he took it well. That's two games in a row and hopefully that's a sign of good things to come."
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER SHEA SALINAS
On Chad Barrett's late goal:
"Chad had been getting on the end of crosses all night and was just due for a goal - I think he hit the crossbar twice and that one, he goes up and put it far post, which was a great finish. It was unfortunate we didn't come away with the win, but it was a good late goal."
On the impact to the team of Victor Bernardez leaving early with an injury:
"That's a huge blow. Especially when they have a tough physical forward like Alan Gordon up there. We expected Victor to kind of nullify him and going out early on was a big blow. But Fatai [Alashe] stepped in there and did a great job. He was physical all night, and took a few blows to the face and kept playing. So give him a lot of props, he played well coming in there."
On whether 1-1 was a fair result:
"No, I think we played really well tonight. I think we had the better of the chances and probably the better of the possession as well and I think we should have won this game. We need to start winning."
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD CHAD BARRETT
On his late goal:
"Tonight it was just one of those kind of things where we left it a little bit too late. But for me it was more personally gratifying since I had a terrible miss probably about 15 minutes before."
On his mentality after his earlier miss:
"Score a goal. Make up for that miss. That's when we really started to go, the crowd really started to respond to us. If I score that goal and the last 20 minutes we go in, I think we'd have more momentum going forward, and it really urges us to go for that win instead of just the last seven, eight minutes where that whole stoppage time was pretty much killed by the red card and the injuries, so I thought more stoppage time probably should have been added. But if it was another five minutes I think we would have had them."
On his second goal in two games and whether he's getting more comfortable:
"I feel great. The header that I missed I was a little bit in shock. I think everybody was. It's one of those ones on the training ground where you're just kind of embarrassed and that's exactly what I was - I was embarrassed that I missed it. The woodwork in the first half, that would have been a great goal if it went in, but I can't miss those. I told Kofi [Sarkodie] if he puts it on my head I'll score and he did exactly that and so to be able to get the goal is great, but it's just a little bit of comfort where I thought I could have won it for us today."
