StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium – Los Angeles, Calif.

LA GALAXY HEAD COACH CURT ONALFO
On the rotation of his starting 11 payers:

“Rotating a roster is a luxury, it shows depth. I thought we put in a good performance. Should’ve been more than two to zero. There should be a penalty kick call to make it three to zero, and who knows what happens. We gave up some counter opportunities, because we were really aggressive in our approach in the first half. Some of it was youthful errors that led to that, but credit to the guys. I thought we did a good job and it feels good to be able to use the entire roster because that was a fifth game in a very busy stretch, and we got two more to go and obviously a very important game on Saturday.”

On what his message was to the team to get the two goals:

“Score. No, really the message at half-time was to keep doing what you’re doing. We had some opportunities early on, and we didn’t convert. I said when we get our next chance we have to bury it, and we did. It obviously took a little bit of the pressure off, and then BJ [Bradford Jamieson IV] gets another one. So, credit to the guys. Good performance.”

On putting Jelle Van Damme into the game:

“That was planned. Dave Romney played five games in a row. So has Nathan Smith, but he’s suspended for Saturday. So, we just ran Nate out. But, in the case of Romney [Romney] it’s tired legs. So we wanted to, intelligently as we can, kind of manage the game and make sure we’re good for this weekend, so we just split the game with Jelle and Romney. But that was something that was planned going in. which is not something you really want to do going into a game, have a planned sub. But, we felt like under the circumstances with the injuries we have to our back line and suspensions, it was the right thing to do.”

On Bradford Jamieson IV’s performance:

“Excellent. Very good on both sides of the ball. On our development of him, there was the big emphasis on trying to get him to be a two-way player. Defensively he’s very good, but you can see offensively he just makes things happen. He’s growing physically. You can see he looks more mature. He looks stronger. And, I’m encouraged with it. I just want that to continue, because he’s a player that can help us.”

On Ariel Lassiter’s second U.S Open Cup goal:

“We’ve talked about getting production out of our younger players when they need to step up. And, credit to Ariel [Lassiter] for one heck of a goal.”

On being able to get good results with younger players:

“It’s opportunity. It’s well deserved opportunity for all these younger players that have come through our system. Guys need opportunities to see if they can do it, and it’s encouraging what we’re seeing right now. We just have to continue with it.”

On LA Galaxy II defender Josh Turnley’s first appearance with the team:

“He played obviously with Galaxy two last year, so we’re very familiar with him. He started the season injured. He was with us in pre-season, so it was a seamless transition. I thought he grew as the game went along, and put in a solid performance.”

On his upcoming schedule:

“We will have a week of recovery, and rest, and training. So, we look forward to it. It’d be a great opportunity to get a good game in.”

On the team’s quarterfinal match against San Jose:

“I mean, one game at a time. You know, I can’t even think about that, because we have to get ready for Saturday, and then Tuesday. So, we’ll worry about that once we get through these next two games.”

LA GALAXY FORWARD ARIEL LASSITER
On his second goal with the first team:

“It’s always something that I want to do stepping on the field. I always want to score I always want to help the team in any way I can. Getting the goal tonight is a blessing. It’s a confidence booster as well so I’m just looking to keep it up.”

On whether this will lead to more minutes with the first team:

“I always want to look to get more minutes with the first team and continue to get better on and off the field. So this is just a stepping stone for me.”

On the goalie’s position before his goal:

“I didn’t really see him set up, I knew he couldn’t see the ball if I hit it over the wall. I just focused on connecting it well and keeping it on target and it went in the net.”

On his confidence:

“Just getting minutes and getting that rhythm is all I really need. Just finding the net here in the Open Cup will translate into MLS.”

On younger players getting to play more often:

“It’s huge. It’s definitely a confidence booster and definitely time to have growth. It’s just another opportunity and if we keep showing well like this our time will come.”

On if having experience against Sacramento helped him in this game:

“A little bit, it’s always going to be a battle against them. It’s a big rivalry, in the USL or here in the Open Cup, but it’s a game that we knew we could win no problem. I don’t really think they gave us too much trouble maybe a little bit in the first half but we got the job done.”

On what Curt Onalfo’s halftime message was:

“Just to keep the pressure on them and to get an early goal, and that’s what we did. We just kept our foot on the pedal and kept going.”

LA GALAXY FORWARD BRADFORD JAMIESON IV
On his goal:

“Training field stuff actually kind of plays out a goal, moves that I kind of do in quick succession and reps help. I’ve got a good run I don’t really remember who it is but I saw a white shirt on my right side, so I know the defender is going to be hesitating and then I just get the space and have a hit.”

On his confidence:

“I try not to let the good things overwhelm me and the bad things overwhelm me the same, I try to keep a level head, and try to take everything with a grain of salt and try to improve on the last performance.”

On if he believes his game is improving:

“Yeah, It’s not like everyday but I do realize that even if you put the work in it’s not going to look like day and night overnight. Sometimes it’s going to look like it’s going steady and then you start to see progress match after match. It obviously feels good, and it’s not like I’m not getting confidence and confidence is a big thing when you’re out on the pitch. It looks like it’s happened all of a sudden but it’s things I’ve been working on for months.”

On the young players’ performance:

“It’s something that you wait for, it’s something that you look forward to, to get to play with your friends, the guys that you came up with because they’re your age. And those are the same guys that aren’t just coming into matches and making an impact but they’re guys that are the impactor and are the source of the win.”
