CARSON, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy took a tumble in all three prominent MLS power rankings after their defeat to the Montreal Impact last Saturday.
Los Angeles saw their nine-game unbeaten run snapped when Didier Drogba's free kick slipped through the hands of Brian Rowe earning the Impact a 3-2 win over the Galaxy at Stade Saputo. Sports Illustrated gave the Galaxy their highest ranking, placing them third while MLSsoccer.com slotted Los Angeles in their lowest position, placing them seventh.
The rationale behind all three power rankings are below:
"The Galaxy’s nine-match undefeated streak ended in highly disappointing fashion, as goalkeeper Brian Rowe’s late mistake gifted Didier Drogba a last-second goal in a 4-3 loss to Montreal. And while Rowe will rightly take heat for the loss, LA’s whole defense continues to be an issue. The Galaxy have only kept one clean sheet all year, and that was on April 2."
"Poor Brian Rowe. In the aftermath of the mistake that led to a Galaxy loss in Montreal, chatter is starting up that the club should upgrade at the goalkeeper position."
"And thus ends a pretty solid nine-game unbeaten run – the sort LA usually save for the second half of the season. It's plenty apparent that the attack is going to stay lethal no matter what, but this team has only one shutout in 2016 despite offseason reinforcements at defensive midfield and along the backline."
