LOS ANGELES (September 8, 2026) -- The six-time MLS Cup Champion LA Galaxy announced today that the club is set to face Liga MX powerhouse Cruz Azul at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday, October 4 at 5:30 p.m. PT in an international friendly. The match will provide both clubs with an opportunity to compete in a high-profile cross-border showcase during the latter stages of their respective league campaigns.

Cruz Azul earned the LIGA MX Clausura 2026 title and holds 10 league titles. Cruz Azul shares the record for most Concacaf Champions Cup titles with seven, tied with Club América. This year, Cruz Azul added another title, Campeon de Campeones 2026. Cruz Azul, one of Mexico's most successful clubs and a perennial contender in Liga MX, returns to Dignity Health Sports Park after facing the Galaxy in Leagues Cup competition in August 2025. In that matchup, the two sides played to a 1-1 draw before Cruz Azul advanced in a penalty shootout, 8-7. Gabriel Pec scored the equalizer for the Galaxy in the 81st minute before more than 24,000 fans in attendance. The clubs have also previously met in an international friendly at Dignity Health Sports Park on Aug. 20, 2019, with Cruz Azul earning a 2-1 victory. The Oct. 4 contest will mark the third meeting between the two sides in Southern California and continue a tradition of high-profile matches that celebrate the deep soccer ties between the United States and Mexico.
