LOS ANGELES (Monday, April 11, 2022) – The LA Galaxy will play host to USL Championship side San Diego Loyal SC in the Third Round of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Dignity Health Sports Park on Tuesday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. PT, it was determined as U.S. Soccer announced the Third-Round matchups.

Dating back to their first U.S. Open Cup match in 1999, the LA Galaxy hold an all-time record of 33-17-0 in the competition and have been crowned champions twice (2001 and 2005). 2022 marks the 107th edition of the U.S. Open Cup, which began in 1913 and is the oldest national soccer competition in the United States.
The match between LA and San Diego will mark the first-ever matchup of the two teams. Notably, LA Galaxy legend Landon Donovan is the head coach for San Diego Loyal SC. In the last U.S. Open Cup, held in 2019, the Galaxy defeated Orange County SC in the Fourth Round before being eliminated in the Round of 16 by the Portland Timbers at Providence Park on June 19, 2019.
LA returns to MLS action when it travels to face Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field on Saturday, April 16. The match on April 16 kicks off at 5:00 p.m. PT, featuring a local broadcast and will be streamed live on LAGalaxy.com.
