Look ahead to San Jose: LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes set for a U.S. Open Cup California Clasico | INSIDER

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes will meet for the second time in five days as they face off in U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 match at Avaya Stadium on Wednesday.

The match will be broadcast on LAGalaxy.com via YouTube. Below are a series of notes, matchups to watch and a predicted score.

LINKS AND NOTES:

The Galaxy and San Jose have met four times in the U.S. Open Cup (2000-2002, 2005), all in the quarterfinals. LA have a 3-0-1 record in those matches.

The LA Galaxy are 20-2-1 all-time in U.S. Open Cup matches in the state of California.

LAGalaxy.com’s Larry Morgan provides a preview of Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup.

Lastly, in the latest edition of “Insider on Location,” I look at the Galaxy’s intentions in the U.S. Open Cup.

MATCHUPS TO WATCH:

Alan Gordon vs. Clarence Goodson

Gordon is certain to play due to the fact that he’s suspended for Saturday, and will have a tough time when he takes on his former teammate in what promises to be a physical battle.

Tommy Thompson vs. Kenney Walker

Walker and Thompson figure likely to slide into their respective lineups with both teams looking to rest some of their stars. The technical U.S. youth international Thompson will be a handful for Walker or whomever lines up in the Galaxy midfield.

Brian Rowe vs. San Jose offense

Even without Wondolowski, the Earthquakes will surely look to crash the box and cause plenty of havoc for the Galaxy goalkeeper. With the home side expected to be active,

PREDICTED SCORE:

LA Galaxy 2 (Gordon, Villarreal) San Jose Earthquakes 2 (Thompson, Goodson); Galaxy advance in penalties.
