Match Preview: LA Galaxy II look to extend their unbeaten streak to four

match preview

LOS ANGELES (Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017) -- LA Galaxy II (4-11-4, 16 points) will line up in their third meeting of the season against Southern California rival Orange County SC (7-4-4, 25 points) at 7:30 p.m. PT on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium (streamed live on LAGalaxy.com/2).

Los Dos are riding high on their first three-game unbeaten streak of the season after a 1-1 draw against OKC Energy FC at home on Sunday. OKC Energy FC forward Andy Craven put in a penalty kick in the 75th minute tying the game and neutralizing a first-half goal from Ariel Lassiter.

Lassiter has seen time with both Los Dos and the LA Galaxy this season, providing goals and key minutes for both. After his goal in the last game, he is now third in scoring this season with two goals in five USL games on the year. Justin Dhillon (6) and Adrian Vera (5) continue to lead the way in scoring with their excellent offensive play.

Eight LA Galaxy players, including Lassiter, started the match for Galaxy II in their outing against OKC Energy FC on Sunday, the first time any LA Galaxy players had featured for Los Dos since May. With the first team regaining strength, the inclusion of first team youngsters like Lassiter, Raul Mendiola, Jaime Villarreal, Nathan Smith and Hugo Arellano can be expected.

The last time Galaxy II hosted Orange County at StubHub Center, Adrian Vera was the lone goal scorer for LA. Vera pounced on a rebounded save from Orange County goalkeeper Charlie Lyon for an equalizer in the 66th minute. Neither team was able to break through again and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Orange County earned a win in LA’s only trip to Orange County, so this Wednesday will be LA Galaxy II’s last opportunity to get three points against OCSC in 2017.

OCSC paid a visit to StubHub Center another time in 2017, for a Fourth Round matchup against LA Galaxy in the U.S. Open Cup. LA defeated Orange County 3-1 in that contest, with goals from Jose Villarreal, Jack McBean and Lassiter, each of whom has appeared in a Los Dos contest this season.
