Match Preview: LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified Team excited to take on Seattle Sounders in front of hometown crowd

CARSON, Calif. – Logan Jones will realize a life-long dream on Sunday when he and the rest of the LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified team face the squad from Seattle Sounders FC at StubHub Center.

The 20-year-old from Semi Valley is expected to start in goal on Sunday when the Galaxy’s Unified squad takes on their counterparts from the Pacific Northwest in a double header match directly following the first team’s match.

A lifelong Galaxy fan who lists Steven Gerrard, Landon Donovan, and Giovani dos Santos as his favorite players, Jones is eager to take the field at his hometown stadium.

“It’s going to be a huge honor to play at StubHub Center where a lot of great players have played,” Jones told LAGalaxy.com. “This has been an unforgettable experience. What I’ll remember most about this team is that we were able to bond. We never get down on one another, and we’ve always been very supportive no matter what.”

Jones was one of the breakout stars of the Galaxy SOSC’s 1-0 defeat back in July. The goalkeeper made several big saves to keep his squad in the game but LA were unable to grab the win.

After an impressive display against Seattle, Galaxy SOSC coach Edwin Zepeda lauded Jones as the best players that afternoon.

“He’s come a long way. He’s an excellent player,” Zepeda told LAGalaxy.com. “He was in my opinion, the player of the game because he saved many shots. Sometimes, we also put him as a forward. He knows how to read plays and he’s very smart.”

As memorable as his experience in Seattle was, it’ll pale in comparison to Sunday when he can play in front of his friends and family.

“When we were in Seattle, it felt different because my family has always been at my games to support me,” Jones said. “I’m really looking forward to getting an opportunity to have them all in the stands cheering me on.”
