Match Preview: LA Galaxy vs. LAFC at Rose Bowl Stadium | July 4, 2023

The LA Galaxy today announced that the Fourth of July home match at Rose Bowl Stadium against LAFC, presented by Yaamava’ Resort & Casino at San Manuel, is sold out. The 20th edition across all competitions of El Tráfico between the LA Galaxy and LAFC is expected to break the all-time MLS attendance record set on March 5, 2022, when the Galaxy squared off against Charlotte FC before 74,479 fans at Bank of America Stadium. The LA Galaxy’s match against LAFC at Rose Bowl Stadium on Tuesday, July 4 will be broadcasted live and for free on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV at 7:30 p.m. PT (LA Galaxy Radio, LA Galaxy Spanish Radio).

The Galaxy enter Tuesday’s Fourth of July match following a 2-2 draw on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes at Stanford Stadium on July 1, which extended a five-match unbeaten run (1-0-4; 7 GF, 6 GA) in league play dating back to May 31. The match between the LA Galaxy and LAFC marks the 20th edition across all competitions of El Tráfico, with the Galaxy leading the all-time series 8-6-5. In the last meeting between the two clubs, the Galaxy earned a 2-0 shutout victory over LAFC at BMO Stadium in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 on May 23. In the first meeting between the LA Galaxy and LAFC in league play this season, the Galaxy fell 3-2 to LAFC at Dignity Health Sports Park on April 16. In 10 all-time home matches played across all competitions against LAFC, the Galaxy hold a record of 7-1-2 (23 GF, 14 GA). 

In their first-ever MLS regular-season match at the Rose Bowl Stadium, the LA Galaxy earned a 2-1 win over the New York/New Jersey MetroStars on April 13, 1996. In 107 all-time regular-season and playoff games played at Rose Bowl Stadium, the Galaxy hold a combined record of 86-32-9 record (.713 win percentage). In the match against San Jose on July 1, Puig tallied an assist, while Judd and Edwards each recorded goals in the result at Stanford Stadium. Judd has recorded three goals and one assist in his last five appearances dating back to May 6, while Puig, who was named to the 2023 MLS All-Star Game, has recorded three assists in his last five league matches played dating back to May 31.
