Mexico advances to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 despite 3-0 defeat to Sweden

 Mexico advanced to the Round of 16 for the seventh consecutive tournament despite falling 3-0 to Sweden.


Goals by Ludwig Augustinsson and Andres Granqvist, as well as an own goal by Edson Alvarez gave the Swedes the top spot in Group F. LA Galaxy players Giovani and Jonathan dos Santos were unused substitutes in the defeat.


Mexico advanced despite the loss thanks to South Korea’s 2-0 victory over Mexico. Mexico will now play the winner of Group E on Monday at 7am PT in Samara.
