MLS commissioner Don Garber and U.S. Women’s Soccer legends Brandi Chastain, and Shannon MacMillan were elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame Class of 2016.

Garber joins the Hall of Fame on the Builder Ballot after 17 years as the Major League Soccer’s commissioner. In addition to running MLS, Garber also serves as the CEO of Soccer United Marketing, which is responsible for staging a variety of soccer events across the United States.

“Thanks to the commitment and hard work of many people, our sport has grown significantly during the last few decades, and there is no doubt the United States is a true soccer nation,” said Garber.  “It is an honor to be inducted alongside Brandi Chastain and Shannon MacMillan, two iconic figures in U.S. Soccer history who have impacted the sport at so many levels.  I am also thrilled that FC Dallas and Toyota Stadium will serve as the new home of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, providing soccer fans the opportunity to pay tribute to many of the great players, coaches, and leaders in U.S. Soccer history.”

Joining Garber in the 2016 Hall of Fame class are Chastain and MacMillan, who both won FIFA Women’s World Cup titles with the United States.

MacMillan enters the Hall of Fame after 12 years on the USWNT, which included a 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup title and 1996 Olympic gold medal. Chastain, known for her legendary celebration after helping U.S. Women defeat China at the 1999 World Cup at the Rose Bowl, joins the Hall following a 12-year career that also included a World Cup title in 1991.
