CARSON, Calif. – Legendary Major League Soccer head coaches Bruce Arena and Sigi Schmid will meet once again on Saturday when the Galaxy face off against Seattle Sounders FC.
More so than any other two managers in league history, the course of the league has been shaped by the two men who account for a combined seven MLS Cups, six Supporters’ Shields and six U.S. Open Cup titles. Both head coaches boast impressive coach trees stemming across Major League Soccer and abroad.
In honor of the latest match between the “Patriarchs of MLS coaching”, MLSsoccer.com analyzed the coaching tree of both coaches in an exclusive interactive infographic.
It shouldn’t be a surprise to many that Arena’s connections run the deepest with six current head coaches and 18 MLS front office/technical staff members having played for Arena coached teams. In comparison, only one current MLS head coach and 14 current front office/technical staff members across the league have played under Schmid.
