SEATTLE—There is nothing like the raw emotion of a game day, let alone a game where a berth in MLS Cup is up for grabs.

There are butterflies in the stomach and quiet moments of reflection which all leads to the chaos and calamity of a championship match.

Thanks to LA Galaxy photographer Robert Mora, who was given unprecedented access to the team during their trip to Seattle, we have a look at the range of emotions that the Galaxy experienced before and during their Western Conference Championship second leg with Seattle Sounders FC.

The day started as a slowly for the team. There were no training sessions or meetings for the guys, but rather a long wait for the team’s 4:45 departure to CenturyLink Field. Once they finally arrived, it was time for business.

Donning their bright yellow warm-ups, the Galaxy furiously prepared as the blue-and-green clad fans began to pack CenturyLink Field to the rafters. As boos rained down upon them, LA’s message was a simple one: Be strong, don’t give them time and most importantly— fight.

The game itself was a heart-wrenching, dramatic battle between two of the best teams in the league. Seattle jumped on the Galaxy with two goals in the first half to put LA on the brink, but the visitors were able to advance on a pinpoint strike by Juninho.

As exciting as the start of the game was, the finish was even more thrilling. Seattle pressed forward in a mad dash for a goal, but the brave Galaxy defenders held on by the skin of their teeth and ultimately eliminate the Supporters’ Shield winners.

The Seattle Sounders won the battle, but the LA Galaxy won the war.

At the final whistle, the jubilation was apparent on the faces of the Galaxy players as they reveled in their victory over the hated Sounders. Whereas past conference championship celebrations were muted, LA rejoiced by jumping into each other’s arms, making wild hand gestures as the Sounders fans shuffled out of the stadium.

After a two-year absence, LA were back right where they belong.
