WASHINGTON – The chief reason that the LA Galaxy were in Washington, D.C. this week was to meet President Barack Obama and celebrate their 2014 MLS Cup triumph, but while they were honored by the Commander-in-Chief, the team also continued their preseason preparations.
Just hours after meeting President Obama, the Galaxy were on the training pitch with a night-time training session at nearby Georgetown University. The session was a homecoming of sorts for defender Dan Gargan who starred for the Hoyas in college.
A day later, the Galaxy were back at Georgetown where they took on the Hoyas in a closed-door scrimmage at the campus’ soccer field. The Galaxy were 2-1 winners in the scrimmage as a Georgetown own-goal and a strike from Jose Villarreal gave LA the victory. LA are now 3-0-0 throughout their preseason slate.
