Post Game Quote Sheet: "We need to get back to the basics"

LA GALAXY II HEAD COACH MIKE MUÑOZ

On the match:

“I’m disappointed in the first half…in the first 40 minutes. I thought we came out far too passive. We gave Seattle far too much respect. We didn’t do a good job of getting pressure on the ball higher up the field. For whatever reason, we decided to just drop off and not set the tone from the start and you could tell that it rattled us. We got caught in a couple of situations where we put some of our young guys at risk because we didn’t come out with an aggressive mindset. Unfortunately it set the tone for the first half.”

On what it will take to turn around the team’s recent string of results:

“You can tell we made some adjustments in the second half. When the guys show up, and they compete and they bring the right mindset, we’ll be fine. We’re creating chances and we could have got a second goal tonight. We have to start there. We have to look at ourselves first just to make sure that we bring a competitive mentality, because I’m not worried. The group will be fine.”

LA GALAXY II FORWARD ETHAN ZUBAK

On the team’s performance and his goal:

“It was a rough first half and it got us back in the game. It was a run I needed to make and it was a run to get the guys confident and back in the game and pushing hard. It felt good and it set the tone for the rest of the match. We didn’t get goals, but I felt like we came out and controlled the match.”

On what the team needs to do to turn things around:

“I think the team needs to get back to the basics in training. It starts with series of good practices coming in everyday. The older guys, like Jose Villarreal, have been saying it’s all about the small things. You play how you practice.”
