Sigi Schmid lauds Sebastian Lletget's second-half cameo: "His progress has been great"

CARSON, Calif. – Is Sebastian Lletget back? Well, not quite.

But the talented midfielder showed glimpses of his old self in the Galaxy’s 3-0 preseason victory over New York City FC at StubHub Center. Lletget was a danger in the attack during his 36-minute shift against the visitors from the Empire State on Saturday.

Lletget was extremely active in his cameo appearance, displaying hints of his stylish touch in several dangerous scoring opportunities. Looking a step faster than he did a week ago in Arizona, Lletget came agonizingly close to finding the back of the net multiple times in his stint.

Even though the midfielder is still recovering from the Lisfranc injury that sidelined him for nearly all of the 2017 campaign, Schmid was extremely pleased with what he saw from the 25-year-old midfielder.

“I thought Seba was good. I was tempted to leave him in for the half. I told him 20 to 30, and we were already at 35 minutes, so I wanted to make sure that my head didn’t get in the way of my heart," Schmid told reporters postgame. "My heart said, keep him out there because he was so close to two or three goals, but I said I had to use my head.  That’s what I told him when I pulled him out.

“His progress has been great. Fitness-wise, he’s really coming around. We just want to make sure that we don’t overdo it too soon.”
